Why is tripp in uniform

Last season Frank Tripp was a detective, this season he has a bald head and is in uniform. I missed the explanation on that. Thanks, Jim. Tony Harding. Any time a police officer is promoted, it is a requirement for them to go on patrol as part of the promotion process. So that's why he wore the uniform. Once the requirement is complete of the required street hours required then they can go back into plain clothes as before.
