After having to send many emails in semi-formal contexts in both the US and UK, I'd argue that it is much more relaxed on both sides of the pond.
I was taught in the US that for formal emails, you can't just write "Best" but you could use "Best wishes" or "All the best". Also, I have received a lot of correspondance from Brits with the closing as simply "BW" from professors, peers, HR, funding sources.
