We continue with our daily series of breaking down the Denver Broncos man roster. Today we keep the football rolling looking at veteran running back, Jamaal Charles. Heading into the draft, it appeared that the Broncos were looking to add some explosiveness or "juice" to the running back position. They were widely connected to running back prospects Christian McCaffrey and Joe Mixon but did not come away with either player. They did draft De'Angelo Henderson late in the draft, but the Broncos still wanted to add more to their running back depth so they rolled the dice and signed former Kansas City Chiefs running back, Jamaal Charles to a one-year low-risk, high reward deal.
Charles his entering his 10th year in the NFL and will turn 31 years old in late December. Charles has been one of the best backs in the league during that year span but has dealt with injuries the past two years. He was limited to just 8 games and 5 starts the last two seasons but did total yards rushing on 83 attempts during that span which averages out to be about 4.
He also totaled 5 rushing touchdowns and 1 receiving touchdown during that span as well. During his career, Charles has totaled 7, total yards rushing, a career 5.
He also has career receptions for 2, yards and 20 receiving touchdowns. So that's 9, career yards and 63 touchdowns for Charles. Subscribe to our Free Newsletter. Charles should be the primary back to receive passes out of the backfield, but Booker was targeted an average of three times per game in as a pass-catcher. Both backs make viable options for third-down situations. For now, look for the combination of Booker and Charles to pick up the workload if Anderson misses time this year. Just one year removed from being in the MVP discussion, Andy Dalton finished 20th among quarterbacks in fantasy points per game in Green and Tyler Eifert missed a combined 14 games, which led to Dalton struggling mightily in the red zone.
Cincinnati ranked seventh in percentage of drives to reach the red zone and 10th in yards per drive. So with a fully healthy offense—Green and Eifert should help Dalton normalize his scoring rates—and the addition of wide receiver John Ross, the No. Dalton is currently being drafted as the No. Coby Fleener finished as the No.
